SsS8

summer side show is june 5th. pre-sale tickets are $25 and $30 at the door. we have to sell 10 tickets in order to play and haven't sold one. so here's my attempt. The Ropes are playing. :D and other awesome bands like eva collider, man made sea, the ghost of birds, oodles of noodles, misfortune 500 and mind powers. i personally would pay $25 just to see the ropes. for each person that says our name at the door we get $2. that's the most we've ever been paid. we'll have merch. maybe some surprises. if we make enough money, we can pay back our fans.

here's a picture of us and the ropes. check out those triads shirts. mmm MMM!

Local? Musicians: Troll Town

Troll Town is the musical project by Jonathan Wolfe of Savannah, Georgia. I discovered his music through a great chain of friends. a few of my good friends that live in savannah are really good friends with Wolfe. so there's the connection.

language is a barrier. especially when i attempt to describe Troll Town. it's God's gift to earth. it's very well produced electronic music. he steers away from the ostinato approach to digitally made music. instead the structures of his songs are constantly shifting and stay interesting. his deep pitched vocals stay buried in reverb, which adds a contrasting element to the instruments. his voice acts as an instrument where the lyrics remain a mystery to the listener. i honestly can't stop listening to this stuff. i urge you to visit his myspace to give it a listen at www.myspace.com/tttrolltownnn

Local Musicians: Starcandy

Columbus's own Jacob Michael Davis AKA Butters AKA Starcandy is perhaps one of the few modest musicians you'll come across nowadays. you may recognize him from the band Oodles of Noodles, but he also has his own solo project by the name of Starcandy (www.myspace.com/starcanddy). you'll notice that he has very experimental approach to his music. At the age of 18, he is an accomplished artist and is well acquainted with many instruments. just in Oodles of Noodles, i've seen him play keyboard, work with live sampling, play bass, and now drums. Starcandy is dreamy electronic music that blows minds. his instrumentation makes you unknowingly focus on individual parts of his music. it's like a soundscape of gameboy noises backed up by a string orchestra with a constant driving beat. Jacob is really quiet and nonchalant about his music, so i'm going to tell the world about his novel work. just until recently, i had no clue he composed an album, entitled "Licorice." Licorice is made up of 13 hypnotic instrumental songs that all have their own identity. the production is flawless. i don't understand how he does it. you can dance to his music, you can mindlessly go into a meditative trance to his music, but no matter the circumstances, you can't be bored with his music. people like Jacob Davis make the columbus music scene not only alive, but good as hell. i want to see some live shows from him soon. i strongly encourage anyone to give Starcandy a listen.

Local Musicians: Jared Long

i'd like to take the time to recognize local underrated musicians of Columbus, GA with this blog. This time in particular, i'd like to acknowledge my friend Jared Long(in the picture shown). he has a style that is extremely hard to come by. it is easy to see that he plays music strictly for himself, which i greatly appreciate. he is the kind of guitarist that understands the guitar in and out. he isn't a technical shredding machine, but he rather is an expert with perfecting guitar tones. commonly, his tone color is made up of a thick fuzz with distortion that overrides his vocals, but at a perfect level. On March 12th, at gallery13, he and johnathan shroyer (on drums) did a ridiculous cover of nirvana's "son of a gun." this is where he completely won me over. the vocals were raspy and had this crazy cry to them. the overdrive coated the drums in a sort of live lo-fi way. Jared and I have a strong obsession with Times New Viking , so it was no surprise to me to see him cover "teen drama." Seeing him play that song in columbus was really a gift. i really could go on and on about his style and playing. i wish he had recordings or a website for his music. if he does decide one day to put out some music via internet i will make sure to make note of it on this blog. expect me to post more about local musicians on here. thanks. i know i sound really dumb on this blog, but like i said, these are just streaming thoughts from my brain. -Michael

Show Last Friday

Last Friday was amazing. We got to play with Athens very own, Misfortune 500 (http://www.myspace.com/misfortune500). they are all super cool people that are really knowledgeable about music. the set they put on was incredible. my favorite part was when Chisolm sang through a megaphone. it reminded a lot of Big Black. the distorted vocals contrasted with the cleaner sustained guitars. very amazing music people. It was also a lot of fun eating with them afterwards at ihop. mmm MMM! Oodles of Noodles (www.myspace.com/oodlesofnoodles249) also put on a very psychedelic set. it doesn't take much for guitarist, Panda, to shred with his Memory Man. the drummer, Butters, is new at playing drums, but he looks so natural behind a set. he really is becoming an impressive drummer. he used to play bass and keys for the band. Triads (myspace.com/youstillarethelight) played a few new songs and covered The xx's intro song. it felt pretty solid. i think the show went very well. we've been listening to them a lot lately. i don't know, i just really dig that minimal catchy reverboverload break-up-song black hoodie music. i was so happy to see my friends spenser, zack, and jason at the show. i know they are pretty busy people. the photo seen is a poster that conner's girlfriend made. i thought it was pretty rad. i never got to compliment it to her, so here is my interweb shout out to Sarah. my friends jared and johnathan played that night as well. which was so freakin' cool. i love you guys. -Michael

The Groundbreaking First Triads Blog Post

hi there. if you're reading this i would like to thank you. i doubt this blog will get popular, but this is just for anyone who wants updates or information about Triads. i would like to say that i'm a terrible speller and i really don't care about capitalizing. Triads is Conner Kees, Cameron Kelly, and Michael Andrews. We're based out of columbus, ga. Cameron currently lives in athens ga though. please be prepared for slap-stick typing. everything i say on this blog is basically derived through my stream of consciousness. spring break '10 just ended and we spent most of that time recording our first full length album. yes babycakes, you heard correctly. i'll post more on that later. along with recording, we came across one of the funniest cartoons i've seen in a long time. FREAKNIK. It's about a party that turned into a ghost. cameron and i seriously believe that T-Pain is a genius for creating freaknik. the picture is a screenshot i captured.
